About Us
The Southport Sharks Swimming Club is a member of the AIF Swimming Association and swims every Sunday morning, from October to May, at Somerset College, Mudgeeraba, (use the Sara Carrigan Crt entrance) starting at 830am.
A typical morning program includes 100m , 50m , 30m , a 50m formstroke stroke choice, and relays. We normally finish at 1100am (depending on the number of races you wish to participate in) and follow up with a poolside BBQ and raffle.
We cater for all abilities, and participation is based on a handicap system. A new swimmer may nominate a time or swim a time trial in each event in order to establish a time. Handicaps are then revised weekly, and your starting time is based on these results. Race at your own pace!
There are also open events for the more competitive swimmers to compete in and these are for all age groups.
We regularly attend local and interstate carnivals that cater for both types of swimmers.
There is a family atmosphere to our club and a lot of social interaction. The age of our members (both male and female) extends from 18 to 80. Children of swimmers are welcome and can participate but the majority of swimmers are adults.
Some of our swimmers do squad training in their own time whilst others are just interested in fitness and social interaction. We are a relaxed club, and this contributes to our success at the various carnivals we attend.
Your first swim is free –new swimmers are always welcome. Give us a try!.
